History

From 1963 to 1972 John had a dairy on the farm. In 1972 the current building housing The Milk Pail was built. The Milk Pail was first opened further east on Montauk Highway.

John and Evelyn first started selling apples grown by Evelyn’s father in Vermont. Many of our current products at the store are from Vermont. John and Evelyn made many contacts in Vermont when they visited Evelyn’s family.

Soon after John and Evelyn opened The Milk Pail many customers requested fresh apple cider. John and Evelyn researched the process of pressing cider. They soon bought the equipment and began pressing.

Pumpkins were also added to our list of products soon after The Milk Pail opened.

John and Evelyn first saw the donut machine at a fruit trade show 1973.  They purchased a new machine and began making our famous apple cider donuts. We’ve been producing the same old fashioned cake donut to this day. We add a little apple cider to help keep them moist and to give them a unique flavor.

John and Evelyn planted their first apple trees in 1973.

We've been making our Apple Cider Donuts for over 30 years.

The U-Pick Apple & Pumpkin Farm first opened in 1983. We'll be celebrating our 25th year in the fall of 2008!!

We've been sending gift boxes of apples for over 30 years.

Amy and Jenn were key in the advertising of The Milk Pail in their younger years. Many people remember hearing Amy and Jenn on WLNG radio.

In 1994 Amy graduated from Cobleskill College with a Bachelor degree and returned to the farm to begin her greenhouse operation.

In 1997 Jenn graduated from Cornell University with a Bachelor of Science degree and returned to the farm to grow peaches and to help grow the apples, pumpkins etc.

In 2005 Jenn married Craig Dupree with the reception on the farm in the greenhouse.

On September 18, 2008 the 13th generation was born. William Everett, "Will" for short, was born to Jenn and Craig.

On September 12, 2010 Amy married Austin Cohn with the ceremony and reception both at the farm.
